Welcome to Discover Cannes where you will find a whole host of information on one of the most beautiful and best known cities of the French Riviera. The city is situated on the coast of La Côte d’Azur in the south-east of France and is home to the famous annual Film Festival which brings stars and celebrities to the French shores every year.
Cannes is known for its luxury and prestige with a large number of designer boutiques lining the main promenade. Tourists flock to the Riviera in their thousands each year to enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean climate, dominated by sea, sand and sun.
The city also has numerous beaches both public and private and is home to some grand names in the hotel industry such as the Carlton,Martinez and Miramar, all of which contribute to the city’s glorious history.
Mixing the old with the new,Le Suquet is the city’s old town quarter with a labrynth of winding cobbled passageways and tiny streets leading down to the Old Port. This little area is teeming with character, thanks to the preservation of much of the architecture and structure, and a vibrant ambiance thanks to the cafes and restaurants lining the port side.
The newer areas of La Croisette –the main strip –and the main shopping street –the Rue d’Antibes –still portray the luxury and elegance that the city has to offer, with some big international fashion names popping up in both areas, yet every so often give us a peep into Cannes’cultural side. The facades of each building tell a story, and the odd original 19th century name or two can still be seen above certain doorways.
Cannes is surrounded by the glorious Esterel hills, the Alps mountain ranges and an expanse of Mediterranean ocean giving way to the two Iles de Lérins which can be seen directly from the bay.
Either side are more of the beautiful surroundings and villages we’ve come to know and love in the Riviera;St Tropez –a haven for celebrity spotters, millionaires and sun seekers;Nice –a sublime little city full of history, not unlike Cannes itself, but with international access to and from Nice Airport.
Between, there is a incredible amount of fantastic look out points,stop-offs and picturesque scenery –the Esterel hills,Théoule-sur-Mer,Saint Jean Cap Ferrat,Juan-les-Pins. The list goes on.
Cannes, the Côte d’Azur and the entire region in this part of France is paradise. The climate, extraordinary landscape and relaxed atmosphere makes it one of the most divine holiday destinations in the world.
